Dawid Weiss commented on COMPRESS-320:
--------------------------------------

I created a pull request on github, here:
https://github.com/apache/commons-compress/pull/8

It contains four commits (can be flattened if needed, but I'd preserve the history as it allows
cleaner separation of previous behavior vs. the one after a patch). The change is fully backward
compatible. If one calls {{getNextEntry}} in succession, the call will now be much faster
since block decompression for solid archives is deferred until really needed. This, together
with COMPRESS-333 would also resolve COMPRESS-291 since one can now now both selectively scan
the archive and decompress arbitrary items.

> I guess these must be one of the most wanted features and it should be very simple to
implement (as I have done one in 126 lines).
> Most (if not all) of the infrastructure is already there, including an index of all files.
And, with some careful coding, the capability to read any of them in any order concurrently
was not difficult to add.
> My code uses loads of lambda and reflection stuff, but I am happy to contribute a clean
Java 5/6 implementation.
