It can's see the tar signature before gzip has "done its thing" and it doesn't know about
gzip (and shouldn't, IMHO).

Basically you'd do something like

{code}
ArchiveStreamFactory.createArchiveInputStream(new BufferedInputStream(CompressorStreamFactory.createCompressorInputStream(in)))
{code}

which is something we could add as fallback to try after createArchiveInputStream hasn't found
an archiver (with some extra error handling and some bookkeeping to prevent infinite loops,
of course).
