Subject [jira] [Commented] (CODEC-171) Add support for CRC32-C
Date Thu, 30 May 2013 15:38:20 GMT

Brett Okken commented on CODEC-171:

To be honest, I am not certain what the benefits are. There are protocols which specify it's
use. One such example is google's snappy framing format[1].

The implementations of that format that I have seen end up copying the implementation out
of apache-hadoop-common, which does not seem (to me at least) to be the best solution.

> There is a PureJavaCrc32C implementation that is part of apache-hadoop-common. It would
be great to have that more easily consummable with far fewer transitive dependencies.
