In revision 1408735, I removed the array allocation in "clear()".
Part of the unit test "testSetElementArbitraryExpansion()" relied on the old behaviour. I
factored it out into two new tests "testSetElementArbitraryExpansion1()" and "testSetElementArbitraryExpansion2()"
and they pass without other changes.
