Subject [jira] [Commented] (MATH-881) Eliminate meaningless properties in multivariate distribution classes
Date Thu, 18 Oct 2012 21:34:05 GMT

Gilles commented on MATH-881:
-----------------------------

Shall I also remove this method:
{code}
/**
 * For a random variable {@code X} whose values are distributed according to
 * this distribution, this method returns {@code P(X = x)}. In other words,
 * this method represents the probability mass function (PMF) for the
 * distribution.
 *
 * @param x Point at which the PMF is evaluated.
 * @return the value of the probability mass function at point {@code x}.
 */
double probability(double[] x);
{code}
?

We already discussed that all the (currently implemented) {{RealDistribution}} classes return
zero. I guess that is is even less likely that an exotic {{MultivariateRealDistribution}}
will soon be implemented...

>          Issue Type: Bug

>             Fix For: 3.1, 4.0
>

> The MultivariateRealDistribution interface includes the following properties which make
no sense for multivariate distributions:
> getSupportLowerBound, getSupporUpperBound, isSupportLowerBoundInclusive, isSupportUpperBoundInclusive
> In addition, the following property makes sense, but is unlikely to be useful:
> isSuportConnected
> All of these properties should be deprecated in 3.1 and dropped in 4.0
