Henri Yandell commented on SANSELAN-50:
---------------------------------------

WEBP Home: http://code.google.com/speed/webp/
C impl: http://code.google.com/p/webp/downloads/list

License is BSD with a separate patent statement. Bit weird as it seems to be akin to Apache
2.0 when combined; maybe it's a GPLv2 compatible thing.

There is a Java encoder/decoder; but it is GPLv3 (http://sourceforge.net/news/?group_id=330218&id=293928).
Do not look at that.

> A new image format designed by Google is emerging, it uses lossy compression. It is used
to reduce image file size to speed up web page loading and its principal purpose is to supersede
JPEG as the primary format for photographs on the web. It would be really good to add this
new image format :-)
