Partial matching for long options

                 Key: CLI-160
             Project: Commons CLI
          Issue Type: Improvement
          Components: Parser
    Affects Versions: 1.0
            Reporter: Emmanuel Bourg
             Fix For: 1.3

Partial matching is a common feature among command line processing tools. It allows to use
shorter option names as long as the abbreviation is not ambiguous.

For example on Debian

{noformat}ls --he{noformat}

is equivalent to

{noformat}ls --help{noformat}

{noformat}ls --h{noformat}

returns the error "option `--h' is ambiguous", because 'h' is also the prefix of the --hide
