I was waiting for Donald to take the lead. Hes posted a couple of
message about the vote which I responded to but he doesn't seem to be
around much. Its ready AFAIC to post the proposal to
general@incubator.

>> Phil,

>> It might be easier (maintenance-wise) to generate two separate pages -
>> one for each version. i.e. set the commons.release.version to "1.3",
>> generate the download_dbcp.xml and then rename it to something like
>> download_dbcp_13.xml then change the commons.release.version to "1.4"
>> and re-generate the download_dbcp.xml.
>
> Thanks, Niall. The problem that I am trying to solve - unless
> others object to this - is to have *both 1.3 and 1.4* appear on a
> single download page. I see the two releases as really both "latest
> release - just for different platforms." I felt bad about hacking
> the generated file, but unless we want commons.release.version to
> turn into a list, I don't see a clean way to fix this.

There isn't a great way to do it in ant - need XSLT or jelly or some
such thing. Having said that I have changed commons-build-plugin so
that you can specify a second release version:

https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/COMMONSSITE-48

Example of page generated for DBCP is here:
http://people.apache.org/~niallp/dbcp/download_dbcp.html

And the changes required in DBCP pom.xml:
http://issues.apache.org/jira/secure/attachment/12427266/build-plugin-dbcp.patch

Not great, but it works. Too late for this iteration of DBCP (would
need a commons-build-plugin and commons-parent release).

I have prepared release candidates for DBCP 1.3 and 1.4. Please all

with one release, so I am inclined to just do one VOTE including
both versions. If anyone disagrees with this, please speak up. I
am happy to run two VOTEs.

1.3 (JDBC 3) version:

Release notes (common version, ships with both)

> It might be easier (maintenance-wise) to generate two separate pages -
> one for each version. i.e. set the commons.release.version to "1.3",

> download_dbcp_13.xml then change the commons.release.version to "1.4"
> and re-generate the download_dbcp.xml.

Phil,

It might be easier (maintenance-wise) to generate two separate pages -
one for each version. i.e. set the commons.release.version to "1.3",
generate the download_dbcp.xml and then rename it to something like
download_dbcp_13.xml then change the commons.release.version to "1.4"
and re-generate the download_dbcp.xml.

Up to you, just a suggestion

Um, in my understanding, if there is source code sitting out there
under a 'class A' license, it can be incorporated without being
granted/cleared. I've posted a JIRA to legal-discuss about this
license and I'm not checking anything in until I hear back.

It looks to me as if a great deal of the current primitives package is
obsoleted by autoboxing. For now, I'm concentrating on adding what got
me started, which is sets and maps that do NOT do autoboxing. At some
point I'll ask for thoughts about deleting all the redundant code and
calling this 2.0 versus keeping it, more or less hollowed out.

In the sandox, pretty much anything goes. Playing nice with others
is of course highly valued, but until they jump in...

All you should be concerned about is what will happen if and when
you merge back into the proper component. Changing the package name
and structure is not only OK, but advisable if changes are not going
to be backward compatible.

Hello,

Just a quick question. about Jakarta Commons BeanUtils 1.8.2 (the latest)

I have to slurp a ResultSet into a RowSetDynaClass, but I have to use
the JDBC column labels instead of the JDBC column names.

It seems that the instance method

RowSetDynaClass.setUseColumnLabel()

is what I want, as its stated purpose is to make a RowSetDynaClass
instance use the column labels.

However, this instance method is useless. Indeed, the flag saying
whether column labels are used is useful at initalization time only,
when a RowsSetDynaClass is initialized from a ResultSet, and not later.
It seems that the constructors have to take the "useColumnLabel" flag
instead - but they don't.

Either I don't get the API at all or this is a bug. Is it?

I'm off patching the source a bit.

Best regards,

-- David

>>>>>>> Or you could start up a sandbox project. We've had good success
with
>>>>>>> ASF committers creating a sandbox branch of a released component,
and
>>>>>>> after diving in for a while it's then merged in to trunk where
they
>>>>>>> then become one of the most active coders of that component.
>>>>>>>
>>>>>>> So +1 to a sandbox branch to primitives if you have ideas you'd
like
>>>>>>> to play with. ASF committers get karma to the sandbox on request,
so
>>>>>>> just need you to want to do that and we can add karma.

>>>>>>>> It's interesting to me that the world in general knows about
Trove,
>>>>>>>> but not so much this.
>>>>>>>>
>>>>>>>> The fact that the front page is labelled with a snapshot
version might
>>>>>>>> have something to do with it, but I am kind of mystified.
One thing
>>>>>>>> that I'd like to add that Trove has is a full generic object
hash map
>>>>>>>> that is an open hash to avoid the space bloat of the stock
Java
>>>>>>>> HashMap.
>>>>>>>>
>>>>>>>> I am willing to make time to work on this. Since I'm not
a committer
>>>>>>>> at commons, I'm thinking that my proposed lab is a reasonable
place to
>>>>>>>> put in some effort and then bring it back into commons. Or
maybe I
>>>>>>>> should just start teeing up patches at commons? I find that
>>>>>>>> reorganizing changes that might be called for to do generics
and such
>>>>>>>> are really clumsy  in patches, so svn cp-ing to a lab might
still make
>>>>>>>> sense.
>>>>>>>>
>>>>>>>> I'm copy the labs list to test if I'm making a particle of
sense.

>>>>>>>>>> I proposed a lab over at labs in which to start construction
of
>>>>>>>>>> something much like what commons-primitives describes
itself as
>>>>>>>>>> setting out to do. The web page for primitives suggests
a rather
>>>>>>>>>> dormant state. Is there anybody in there actively
working on
>>>>>>>>>> primitives?
>>>>>>>>> I think [primitives] is stable and complete, thus appears
rather quiet.
>>>>>>>>>
>>>>>>>>> I'd also point out Joda-Primitives - http://joda-primitives.sourceforge.net/
>>>>>>>>>
>>>>>>>>> Its a fork of the concept of [primitives] but with an
API design I felt more
>>>>>>>>> comfortable with. However, I don't have time to work
on it (generify,
>>>>>>>>> release). I'll grant access to anyone that wants to help
on it.
