Let's see then ...

Advantages :

+ A uniform document formatting tool
+ Complete publishing rights control
+ Easy access for developers
+ Dev oriented , they can be ofuscated from end-user

Disadvantages :

+ XML ( albeit extremelly powerfull , not every dev actually "likes" it )
+ Difficult to find if you dont "actually know" its there
