If:

a) it's considered that collections_jdk5 is ready, and
b) someone volunteers to be the release manager

then I'll take a stab at the merge. Definitely done these in the past,
though it's always fun when you can't walk over to the people who made
the commits and get them to explain the problematic change.

First up would be to cp trunk to a 3.x branch. It's also possible that
merging from trunk to the branch may prove easier.

Currently there are 28 open issues on the Generics JIRA version. Some
big topics in there still, so I'm not convinced on a) above. That
said, if it's felt that it's far enough along and there is
interest/energy, then the merge could happen and patches could be
double applied.
