I installed JRockit and was able reproduce the error by running 'mvn 
verify'. But as I said Maven 2 shouldn't be used for running the tests. 
The configuration for surefire is to only include:
   **/AvalonLoggerTestCase.java.
I'll have a look and see if the surefire config needs tweaking...
