The problem, I take it, is that builds are hanging.   Other than kludgy stuff like running
commands in the background and sleeping, then grepping ps for stragglers, I don't know any
way to do this in bash.  You are right, this is yet another  eason to move to a real language.
 Ruby, anyone?
