Actually, we had a very similar defect (35346) and in the nightly builds the
current regexp is substantially identical already to what you are recommending:

        "(\\S+)\\s+(\\S+)\\s+(?:(<DIR>)|([0-9]+))\\s(\\S.*)";

However, it still fails to parse your sample as I indicated.  The real problem
here is that your sample is displaying the timestamp in an unexpected format. 
We expect this format:

MM-dd-yy hh:mma

which is obviously not what your sample provides.  While the format your sample
uses is clearly more modern and even arguably "better", we cannot change the
default behavior of this parser and break previous implementations.  We could
consider a change where both formats are tried.  I'd like to think this over a
little before jumping into it.

However, fortunately there is already a workaround for this situation already in
version 1.4.0 of commons-net.  Please see <a

org.apache.commons.net.ftp.FTPClientConfig</a> for details.
