Still works here. Its odd.

So I guess it has something to do with your ftp server.

Did you try to use a command-line client to upload a file with space in the
directory?

You have to issue something like
put local-file.txt "tmp/dir with space/file.txt"

Do NOT cd into the directory.

Also please retry
http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/jakarta/commons/proper/vfs/trunk/src/examples/org/apache/commons/vfs/libcheck/FtpCheck.java

I added test code which will create a test.txt on your ftp server and write some
chars into it.

Last but not least. If this test-code works I need a tcpdump of both
communications. (the test code and the failure when using vfs)

On your client you have to issue "tcpdump -s 1024 -w ftp.log host 10.0.1.54"
(replace the ip by your host)
On windows you can use http://www.ethereal.com/ for this. Its important to use
"-s" or snap-len (dont know where to find in ethereal) so I can see the
data-flow too.

Please save the capture in tcpdump format and send it to me via private mail.
Beware, I can read the used passwords in clear-text, though you can fully trust
me :-)
