First off, I am interested in this since StringUtils.replace is used heavily 
in my app, and if I loop through and call that in cases where multiple 
replaces are needed, then tons of Strings are created and collected.

I think there should be a method in StringUtils for this.  As to if StrBuilder 
could do a good job with this is a good question.  I have a feeling that 
keeping the same algorithm I use will not be possible with StrBuilder, though 
I am not sure.  If the method is in StringUtils does that mean it shouldnt use 
StrBuilder since that is a different package?  If not, let me know and I can 
research further.  I wrote a method to do this, and focused on performance (so 
it is a bit long winded).  If you think it is ok, lets add it to StringUtils.  
If you have comments or questions let me know and I can research and recode.  
I will add an attachment of the code and test cases.  Thanks!  Chris
