A problem I see with the directives aproach is that it is appropriate only for
read only configurations. When the configuration is written back, the directives
get lost - at least with the current implementation.

Maybe this concept would provide useful when applied to ConfigurationFactory and
its definition files? Here it could be possible to include complete
configuration sources based on conditional expressions. Wouldn't this be similar
to the usage scenario mentioned in comment #3?
