As a side note, the reason the original exception isn't wrapped by the
IOException, is because Throwable.initCause didn't appear until J2SE 1.4
and we're still supporting earlier Java releases.  While I disagree that
the InterruptedException should be propagated, I do agree that the original
cause should be accessible.  However, we can't do that until we adopt J2SE 1.4
as the baseline for compatibility.
