Actually, a few of us working on the eyebrowse migration kind of feel that
way about Log4J today.  log4j-1.1.3 and current don't have the same
behavior.  For details you'd have to talk with DLR.

FWIW, I notice that Craig and other participated in a thread on
"commons-logging & classloading" way back in '03:
