Hi Rory,
We too are facing the same problem.

Basically I am trying to know if a given path is a directory or file. 

String serverfilenm = "/fs01/software/work/kinnari/test file 77s.txt";
FTPFile[] fileObjects=  ftpclient_cl.listFiles(serverfilenm);

When above is executed, fileObjects is returned with zero length. Of course, 
file is very much present on the server. Expected was that array would contain 
one element.

My ftp server is RedHat ES Linux 2.1. Same problem even on Solaris 8 .

Kindly look into this problem.
