Perhaps I am misunderstanding your original message, but I think this 
functionality already exists in the LookupComand.  If you do not specify a 
catalog name, then it will search the default (via CatalogFactory.getInstance
() method).

This was added somewhat recently (end of October), so maybe you were not 
looking at the latest source code?  Most likely I am confused because Craig's 
response seems to indicate an entirely different take on your post.

Just got back from a month long vacation, so I am a little bit out of it.  Let 
me know if this of any help to you.
