Martin,

Thanks for your insights.  I have just a couple of things to say and then I
guess I will just go off and try my own implementation as you suggest.

First, do you think that you may be getting your results because you are only
using the default implementation?  I suspect this is so.  Anyway, I am clearly
getting the result I stated.


Second, what I was trying to say is that you have tied the
DefaultFileItemFactory to the application in a way more consistent with a
provider than a factory.  So, I was suggesting you might want to have a provider
setup which then would not require implementations to adapt all of your ideas. 
This would increase flexibility a "zillion" percent, since there is really none
at the moment.  Where would you prefer this discussion take place?
