Converting to a super-class is not good enough since the caller expects to get 
something that casts to the requested target class.  Converting to a sub-class 
would be useful, although I don't see it as doable since Class doesn't have a 
method called something like "getKnownSubclasses".

On the other hand, if you were talking about the situation that bug 20686 
requests, then I could see looking up the super-class chain for the source 
class.
