Hmmm? My testing indicates that both 1.0.2 and 3/25/03 nightly always use log4j 
when it's present. If log4j is present, both builds appear to ignore the 
following commons-logging.properties entries:

org.apache.commons.logging.LogFactory=org.apache.commons.logging.impl.LogFactory
Impl
org.apache.commons.logging.Log=org.apache.commons.logging.impl.Jdk14Logger
-OR-
org.apache.commons.logging.LogFactory=org.apache.commons.logging.impl.LogFactory
Impl
org.apache.commons.logging.Log=org.apache.commons.logging.impl.SimpleLog

Yep, I figured that out. I was just using that as proof that it worked in 1.0.2.
