Null Pointer Re depends

           Summary: Null Pointer Re depends
           Product: Commons
           Version: 1.6 Final
          Platform: All
        OS/Version: Other
            Status: NEW
          Severity: Minor
          Priority: Other
         Component: Validator
        AssignedTo: commons-dev@jakarta.apache.org
        ReportedBy: mlconnor@yahoo.com

When you are using Validator in Struts and you leave out the depends attribute
on a field, you get a null pointer exception on line 502 of Validator. There is
no way to tell which field is causing this. It would be nice if we checked for
a null there and threw an exception providing some info about the field that was
causing the problem.

I'm not sure if this should be more of a Struts issue or a Validator issue but
I'm sure it's costing people a lot of time. I just assumed that the field was
not dependent on any validation routines so I just removed the depends attribute.
