Subject RE: nominating Jeff Dever as the HTTPClient 2.0 release manager
Date Tue, 30 Jul 2002 16:55:35 GMT
Hey Guys, that's great!

I'm a contractor for a firm called Procom here in Ottawa, Canada. Currently
I am on contract to Nortel Networks for the development of an internal test
tool for their network management software.

I first started looking at using the HttpURLConnection class for the web
interface component of this test tool, but found that it was too raw for my
purposes. Then I tried out the HTTPClient package by Ronald Tschalär which,
while useful, had some inherent problems that could not be easily overcome.

Then I found the Commons HttpClient component. It was a little rough around
the edges, but being an open source development project within a well
defined framework (Jakarta) I jumped right in and started submitting
patches. Initially it was just work related, but now consumes much of my
spare time as well.

I am very happy with the resurgence in interest in HttpClient from all the
contributors and users, and am committed to a high quality 2.0 release as
the Release Manager. The job of 2.1 release manager will remain open even
though I would like to stay on as a committer after the 2.0 release.

Thanks for the vote of confidence!

Jeff's clearly been the defacto release manager for Http Client 2.0, and has
done a superb job of herding the various changes, enhancements and patches
that have been proposed and pushing the whole process forward. I think we
should make it official. Here's my nomination.
