As I've said before, if someone's got a reflection or
conditional-compilation based solution (or better), I'd be happy to commit
it.  (If you check the archives, I think at least two people had mentioned
that they we're thinking of doing so over the last month or so.)  If I get a
chance, I'll take stab, but frankly it'll be a while before I get a chance.

Otherwise, I believe DBCP will work just fine running under JDK 1.4 (minus
in JDK 1.4 features), it just won't compile there.
