Hi Martin,

Do not know details, but it might help if you use the xsl:output element 
in your transformation.
There is hope that it would not be overridden by the serializer.

<xsl:output
method="xml|html|text|name"
version="string"
encoding="string"
omit-xml-declaration="yes|no"
standalone="yes|no"
doctype-public="string"
doctype-system="string"
cdata-section-elements="namelist"
indent="yes|no"
media-type="string"/>
