right-click the download and 'save-as' on
http://cocoon.zones.apache.org/daisy/cocooninaction/17.html

dunno what alternative you took (maybe cut and paste rather then
save-as?) but the essential <![CDATA[ section in the build script got
eaten up there...


things should look like this in the area you mentioned:

 <echo file="build.xml"><![CDATA[<?xml version="1.0"?>
<!--
  File automatically generated by ant script for YourCocoonBasedProject.
  Manually extend it to your own needs.
  -->
<project name="YourProjectName" default="init">
