You can have a look at the javadoc here, there is an example

Basically a use is like this :
<map:act type="session-propagator">
       <map:parameter name="userId" value="{ID}"/>
       <paramater name="userName" value="{name}">
</map:act>

Parameters "example" and "example1" are propagated to the session

Use the session input module :
<map:transform src="stylesheets/sheet.xsl">
   <map:parameter name="userId" value="{session-attr:userId}"/>
</map:transform>
