If you are fine with StreamGenerator,

var resolver =
cocoon.getComponent(Packages.org.apache.excalibur.source.SourceResolver.
ROLE);
var source =
resolver.resolveURI("cocoon:/pipelineContainingStreamGenerator");
var is = source.getInputStream();

should work.
