You can set variables at the sitempap level which you can
pass via map:parameter to your xls or so ...

<map:component-configurations>
  <map:global-variables>
    <portal-id>5</portal-id>
  </map:global-variables>
</map:component-configurations>

<map:match "foo.xml">
  <map:generate src="foo" type="bar">
    <map:parameter name="portal-id" value="{global:portal-id}"/>
    ..
    ..
    ..
  </map:generate>
</map:match>

don't know if theres a better way ....
