A =A0 is a MIME encoding (IIRC "quoted printable") for a non-breaking
space.
If you have some days left to spend on something much more horrible
than Alien 1, Chtulu or even Edgar Allen Poe, read the RFCs regarding
internet mail.

It's a FAQ. Search the list archives, for example at
  http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/
it's cropping up every two weeks or so and there are sometimes quite
decent replies.
