Bertrand,

could, just possibly, a sub-select fit the bill ?

something like:

SELECT Name
	FROM Employee
	WHERE Ssn IN (
		SELECT DISTINCT PMSsn
			FROM Projects
			WHERE Status = 'open'
	)
