This is a FAQ (though I dont recall if it is actually *in* the FAQ).

Check the list archives, there have been lots of mails about this.

Though, the easiest solution I found was to have a VNC session started on
boot, and to have the server startup script executed by the VNC user's init
script.  (this is of course a way to use Batik instead of removing it)
