Subject Servlet.init() error running cocoon for the first time addendum

Hi.  Actually my previous post was slightly incorrect.  The stack trace I showed comes up under
jdk1.3.1 but not j2sdk1.4.0.  The j2sdk1.4.0 version throws a whole bunch of class file version
is too recent errors.  The stack trace for that is as follows:

As far as I am able to tell this error has its root in differences between the .class file
structure for 1.3.1 and 1.4.0.
