This is a problem that I also ran across at one point while trying to get Weblogic 6 working
with Cocoon 1.8.  I never did get around to solving this.  What did you do to fix it?  Was
it a classpath problem?  Do you have Cocoon 1.8 working with Weblogic 6?

It was a Weblogic 6 problem.... they load an outdated version of xalan while
loading up the server, which was causing this exception. After a lot of
messing with the server, I managed to get it running.

um, it works fine for me and everyone else who's been working with c1.
what version of xalan are you using?
