Same thing.  I suspected that the modifications made to Tomcat config files
for Cocoon-1.8 may have had something to do with the problem, so I started
using the auto generated mod_jk.auto for Apache again.

I'm getting the same sitemap exception but something odd occured to me.  How
does Apache now know how to handle *.xml files?  There is no reference to
this in the auto generated mod_jk.auto, but Apache seems to be forwarding
the *.xml requests on properly.

Now it is a matter of compilation errors.

Please clear your repository (the work directory provided by your servlet
engine vendor).

You also don't need xalan in the Tomcat lib directory.
