I found an issue that was related to a bug in the way that Cocoon 1 does
caching - essentially a Hashtable was growing without bounds (even with
caching turned off) that would result in minute but deadly bits of memory
being wasted (a Java memory leak - holding a ref to an object that you no
longer need.).  It took some time, but Cocoon would eventually kill my JVM
after around 125,000 requests with a 64MB setting.  The solution that I
implemented was to replace code to bound the HashTable, there may be other
solutions....

Cocoon 2 apparently is re-implementing the cache mechanism.
