Try CTRL+BREAK on windows in the console window, or

kill -QUIT pid

where pid is the pid of the java process, in Unix. This will give you  a 
stack trace so you can see where it is, unless the JVM itself has crashed. 
There is a good guide on to deciphering stack traces and 
monitor dumps.
