Subject Problem with Cocoon 1.7 Installation (cont'd)
Date Wed, 08 Mar 2000 18:30:39 GMT
I've moved a bit further along in the Cocoon 1.7 installation but I am
now unable to bring up http://localhost/Cocoon.xml. The error message
in my web browser is as follows:

Not Found

The requested URL /Cocoon.xml was not found on this server.

and the error log /var/log/httpd/error_log says:

[Wed Mar 8 12:23:23 2000] [warn] [client 127.0.0.1] handler "cocoon"
not found for: /home/httpd/html/Cocoon.xml
[Wed Mar 8 12:23:23 2000] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] File does not
exist: /home/httpd/html/Cocoon.xml

NOTE: I have the following configuration settings

/etc/httpd/conf/jserv/zone.properties:
servlet.org.apache.cocoon.Cocoon.initArgs=properties=/usr/local/cocoon/conf/cocoon.properties

/etc/httpd/conf/jserv/jserv.conf:
Action cocoon /servlet/org.apache.cocoon.Cocoon
AddHandler cocoon xml

/etc/httpd/conf/jserv/jserv.properties:
wrapper.classpath=/usr/lib/apache/ApacheJServ.jar
wrapper.classpath=/usr/local/jsdk2.1/servlet.jar
wrapper.classpath=/usr/local/jdk1.2.2/src.jar
wrapper.classpath=/usr/lib/pgsql/jdbc6.5-1.2.jar
wrapper.classpath=/usr/local/cocoon/bin/cocoon.jar
wrapper.classpath=/usr/local/cocoon/lib/xerces_1_0_1.jar
#wrapper.classpath=/usr/local/cocoon/lib/xalan_0_19_4.jar
wrapper.classpath=/usr/local/cocoon/lib/xalan_0_19_5/xalan.jar
#wrapper.classpath=/usr/local/cocoon/lib/xalan_0_20_0/xalan.jar
wrapper.classpath=/usr/local/cocoon/lib/fop_0_12_1.jar

(As you can see, I've tried using xalan 0.19.4, xalan 0.19.5, and xalan
0.20.0 without success.)

/usr/local/cocoon/conf/cocoon.properties:
I did not change the settings in cocoon.properties with the exception of
processor.xsp.repository = /home/httpd/html/repository
I wasn't sure where to put the repository. Is it a bad idea to put it
here?

I also copied the cocoon samples directory to /home/httpd/html/samples
and when I try to load http://localhost/samples/index.xml into my web
browser, index.xml loads as a web page but with the following error
message:

     java.lang.RuntimeException: Error creating
org.apache.cocoon.transformer.XalanTransformer: make sure the needed
classes can be found in the classpath

and the error log /var/log/httpd/error_log says:

When I try using xalan 0.19.4 and load
/home/httpd/html/samples/index.xml I receive the following error message

One final note. When I first tried to install Cocoon v1.7 the build
kept failing. In an earlier post to this listserv Donald Ball wrote, "I
reckon it's that you're compiling against servlet-2.1 but cocoon
requires servlet-2.2 to compile. Mind you, cocoon should _run_ with 2.0,
2.1, or 2.2, but it must have 2.2 to compile properly." So I placed
/usr/local/jsdk2.1/servlet-2.2.0.jar on my hard drive and Cocoon
compiled correctly. I don't know if this has anything to do with my
present problem but I'm mentioning it in case it helps to troubleshoot.

Thanks greatly for any help! I have been laboring over this for days
without success before posting to the listserv so that I won't be asking
trivial questions that I can answer myself. I am new to Linux so sorry
in advance for any obvious mistakes that I haven't figured out on my
own.
