<p class="note">Cocoon is written in Java and is therefore platform-independent.
However, we have experience with Windows XP, so some instructions might be
windows-only and need some changes for other operating systems.<br/>
Any feedback on this is much welcomed.</p>

<p>Using Eclipse is not required for Cocoon, you can use any editor or IDE you
like. However, it is what we use and have experience with, so we'll be using it
in this tutorial.</p>

<p>Eclipse can be downloaded <a href="http://www.eclipse.org/">here</a>.
Use any
3.X version.</p>

<h3>Working with Eclipse</h3>

<p>Eclipse uses the notions of <em>perspective</em> and <em>view</em>.
Coming
from a simple editor I initially had some trouble finding my way around in
Eclipse. If you feel the same, do spend some time studying the the documentation
to get familiar with Eclipse's way of presenting information.</p>

<p class="note">JDJ (Java Development Journal) has an article that gives a quick
overview of the various features of Eclipse:
<a href="http://jdj.sys-con.com/read/48887.htm">http://jdj.sys-con.com/read/48887.htm</a>.
<br/>
Extensive documentation can be found at the Eclipse site:
<a href="http://www.eclipse.org/documentation/main.html">http://www.eclipse.org/documentation/main.html</a>.
</p>
