You're right, the solution isn't the most elegant one. IIRC the problem was that the DispatcherServlet
is managed by the servlet container and I wasn't able to get access to it in a clean way (yes,
I could introduce a static method but this is even more awkward than the check of the startup
date IMO).

As long as we don't have a better idea, I suggest that we put the check of the startup date
back into the code and add a TODO.
