These 2 events are unrelated.

Given [1] I suspect that the recent exclusions added by Carsten have caused
the compilation error. However I can't reproduce the failure locally anymore
so I'll hold off until the next nightly build before investigating further.

The download failed because the files (spring*.pom) maven is searching for
are not available on maven central. It seems that the spring jars have been
uploaded without creating poms. This is fairly harmless though, apart from
the annoying WARNING messages.
