I'm reluctant to close this bug on the basis of this fix because it only fixes 
the symptom in this particular component.  Looking through the code base 
FragmentExtractorTransformer was the only pipeline component I came across that 
allowed the element it deals with to be set in its configuration.  Every other 
transformer dealt with fixed named elements only.

If we close this bug now it may come back to bite us when a future transformer 
is developed that handles configurable elements.

I delve a bit deeper into the code base and see if I can find the real culprit.
