I've done some more tests,

A question, What is the relationshup between Tomcat Threads and the pools.
Is the pool shared between threads, or is it dedicated to each thread. eg

If we have a pool of generators that could contain 32 generators of a particular
type, and 100 threads, it the theoretical numbe of open file handles 3200 or 32 ?

If it is 3200 it makes sense that this is where our problem is and the ops guys
have got too many components in the pool and/or too many threads.
