OK, here is what I found, in the following line:

Boolean handlePars = (Boolean)this.getConfiguration(
coplet, "handleParameters");

handlePars results in null, which is why nothing
inside:

if ( handlePars != null && handlePars.booleanValue() )


gets executed.
