Two ideas:

1) Use configure():
    <namespace prefix="wd">http://apache.org/cocoon/woody/...</namespace>
2) Seen in recent commit in some other component:
    <map:parameter name="namespace.wd" 
value="http://apache.org/cocoon/woody/..."/>

Is it better? :)
