Thank you very much, Volker! Your suggestion solved my problem!

I modified the cocoon.xconf file in the WEB-INF folder. From the entry

  <xslt-processor class="org.apache.cocoon.components.xslt.XSLTProcessorImpl"
                  logger="core.xslt-processor">
     <parameter name="use-store" value="true"/>
     <parameter name="incremental-processing" value="true"/>
  </xslt-processor>

I changed the value of the incremental-processing parameter from true
to false and everything worked fine. But I have to admit that this
influences the performance, the applications runs slower but it is still 
acceptable.
