    <esql:execute-query>
      <esql:query><xsp:expr>sql</xsp:expr></esql:query>

where the string sql is something like:
update wartungsvertraege set deleted = 'frank (26.02.02)' where id = 271

why should'nt updatecount=1 when there is exactly one row which is affected by
this update?

// snippet from method adjustCounts()
this.updateCount=this.statement.getUpdateCount(); /* updateCount becomes 1 in
my case */
...
//
