Cocoon 2 makes tomcat 4.0.2.B1 dump core

Summary: Cocoon 2 makes tomcat 4.0.2.B1 dump core
           Product: Cocoon 2
           Version: 2.0
          Platform: PC
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: NEW
          Severity: Blocker
          Priority: Other
         Component: core
        AssignedTo: cocoon-dev@xml.apache.org
        ReportedBy: Alain.Lichnewsky@math.u-psud.fr

Running on Linux Mandrake 8.0 and with Sun jdk1.3.1_01:
After putting the cocoon.war found in the cocoon2 tar ball,
tomcat dumps core on startup. Executable in core is "java"
However cocoon.war has been expanded into a 18Mb directory tree before the
problem occurs.

Not much appears in the logs, localhost_log.2002-01-04.txt ends with:

webapps/cocoon/WEB-INF/lib/xerces-1.4.4.jar
2002-01-04 10:02:47 WebappLoader[/cocoon]: Deploy JAR /WEB-INF/lib/xml-apis.jar
to /usr/local/tomcat4/webapps/cocoon/WEB-INF/lib/xml-apis.jar
2002-01-04 10:02:47 WebappLoader[/cocoon]: Deploy JAR /WEB-INF/lib/xt.jar to
/usr/local/tomcat4/webapps/cocoon/WEB-INF/lib/xt.jar
2002-01-04 10:02:47 StandardManager[/cocoon]: Seeding random number generator
class java.security.SecureRandom
2002-01-04 10:02:47 StandardManager[/cocoon]: Seeding of random number generator
has been completed
2002-01-04 10:02:54 Cocoon2: init

All other logs seem normal. No java traceback in catalina.out.

Is this problem known. How should I proceed debugging (the jvm ? tomcat ? cocoon
?). Is there an entry in the FAQ on debugging at JVM level for tomcat and
webapps.
